The Future of Exercise: Mental Health Benefits Will Be a Primary Focus

As mental health issues continue to be a growing concern in today’s society, the benefits of exercise are becoming increasingly recognized beyond just physical fitness goals. In the near future, psychological benefits of exercise will be one of the primary benefits more often touted.

Here’s why:

  1. Reduced State of Anxiety: Exercise has been shown to reduce anxiety levels in the short term. Even a single session can have immediate effects on reducing anxiety levels.
  2. Decreased Mild to Moderate Depression: Exercise has also been shown to have a positive effect on depression. It can help improve mood and feelings of well-being.
  3. Reduced Neuroticism: Regular exercise has been shown to have long-term effects on reducing neuroticism. This can lead to a more stable and positive outlook on life.
  4. Adjunct to Professional Treatment of Severe Depression: Exercise has been shown to be an effective adjunct to professional treatment of severe depression.
  5. Improvement in Mood, Self-Esteem, and Self-Concept: Exercise has been found to improve mood and self-esteem, which can lead to an overall positive self-concept.
  6. Reduction in Various Indices of Stress: Exercise has been shown to reduce various indices of stress, including perceived stress and cortisol levels.

I have seen the powerful impact regular exercise has on many people.

Despite having reached their goals they started with, I have many clients who have been with me for 5 years and longer. One client has been with me for 15 years! One reason they all talk about is the benefits they feel on their overall ability to deal with life. It helps them with deal with anxiety, depression and stress levels. It also improves their overall mood and “clears the mind” before getting back to their daily lives.

If a pill was available that could do all of this…AND change your body and physical health. Every person on the planet would be taking it.

In conclusion, exercise is not just about achieving physical fitness goals. It has a profound effect on mental health as well. As we become more aware of the benefits of exercise on mental health, it will become a go-to for everyone seeking to live their life to the fullest. So, let’s make exercise a part of our daily routine and reap the benefits of a healthier body and mind.
